This is the commentary by L. Francis Herreshoff; “My father modeled, perhaps, ten rowboats of varying proportions after the “Columbia” lifeboat model but never departed radically from this shape. This is the best model for a tender I have ever seen. They row well, sail well, and are good dry sea boats. They will tow through anything. A short deck over her stern and a watertight bulkhead under her foredeck greatly increases the value as a lifeboat.” There are some assorted pictures of some of the variations in the “Mystic Watercraft Collection.”
