The Traditional Swedish Blekingseka that was featured in WB #211 (Dec. 2009). “Ekesköld” (Oaken-shield) is a young boat (2009) whose plans came from Sweden, and was built entirely by my father and I from standing tree to sail. We love the boat dearly, but we are not near enough to good sailing water to make for convenient sailing. We’d love to see someone make better use of it.
As far as I know, “Ekesköld” is the first, and remains the only Blekingseka in the Americas, though I believe that the design has the potential to become popular with fans of traditional boats. She rows well and sails well.
The boat comes fully outfitted with Tanbark Dacron sails, handmade Swedish oars, rigging, an oiled-canvas cover, and a trailer. Please call or email for pricing, and for more information or photos.
